Character Name: Lelial Scott-Hughes
Character Age: 31
Character Suit and Rank: Four of Diamonds
Short Physical Description: Average height and build, black hair, pale skin. She prefers loose fitting clothing in gypsy/renaissance style, braids and beaded jewelry.
Character Personality: Lelial by nature is very quiet, very elegant and poised. Despite being blind, she still keeps a grace about her that excludes an aura of both delicateness and strength. A writer by profession, her books of poetry, memoirs and other works have done much to inspire others with similar disabilities, distinguishing her as an author of some renown.
Lelial was not born blind, but rather suffered a traumatic accident during childhood (of which she has never spoken nor has ever been disclosed to the public) and had to learn to live with her handicap. She overcame countless obstacles and trials to achieve an independent adulthood and semblance of a normal life. She has a deep passion for helping others with abnormalities, but prefers to remain aloof from the spotlight, instead letting her works speak for her in the public venue. Her writing success has made a considerable difference in her life, as money always smooths even the roughest terrain, but financial stability is secondary to her need to share her innermost thoughts and connect with others on a wide scale.

A few months after turning twelve, she lost most of her vision in an accident (the details which are sealed by court record and the family's wishes) and from then on attended specialized schools for visually impaired children.
As their only child, her family scraped by to afford her education, which only drove Lelial to excel as quickly as possible, even graduating a year early to begin her college career. She'd always wanted to be a writer, a storyteller, but soon discovered that her writings were developing a more personal slope, speaking from the heart about her life in dealing with disability. Setting aside her novel, she instead began tinkering with a book of poetry, which, when published, sold copies in the millions. An almost instant success, Lelial then went on to write more missives on the same scale, all of which were greeted with the same enthusiasm.
Due to her success, she was able to provide a comfortable retirement for her parents, but the never ending spotlight soon became far too much to handle. In an chance conversation she learned of the Deck, and after much discussion with her business associates, picked up, packed up and bid farewell to the Outside world in favor of a safer place where she could 'disappear'.
She joined the Diamond suit, beginning at the lowest rank and challenged her way to Three, where she remained for a year and a few months before leaving for the Outside again on another book signing tour. She returned to the Deck for another much-needed sabbatical, with the intention of retiring from writing in six months and making the Deck her permanent home. Upon her return, she challenged to Four, winning a contest in song to attain her current rank.
